The Real Cost of Your Trim Package

3/26/2026

THE REAL COST OF YOUR TRIM PACKAGE
It's usually not the number on the quote.

The biggest mistake builders make with trim packages isn’t what they choose — it’s how they evaluate it.

That number at the bottom of the quote rarely tells the full story. Because when it comes to interior trim and doors, the true cost of a project isn’t just what you pay upfront — it’s what happens after materials are ordered, delivered, and installed.

WHAT LOOKS LIKE SAVINGS USUALLY ISN'T
Choosing the lowest number can feel like a win at bid time. But what often follows are issues that don’t show up on paper:
  • Incomplete or unclear quotes
  • Missed materials
  • Disorganized deliveries
  • Jobsite damage
  • Rework and callbacks

None of these are reflected in the initial price. But they show up quickly — in time, labor, and frustration.

WHERE JOBS ACTUALLY LOSE TIME & MONEY
The biggest cost drivers aren't always the obvious.
  1. Details weren't fully defined upfront - without early alignment decisions get pushed into the field where they're harder, slower, and more expensive to resolve.
  2. Scope gaps create change orders - lump sum quotes can hide missing components. What looked like a complete millwork package really isn't.
  3. Install becomes problem solving - when crews are left alone to interpret details on-site, mistakes can happen - and rework follows.

THIS IS WHERE THE "CHEAP NUMBER" STARTS COSTING YOU
The gap between the lowest bid and the actual project cost often shows up in:
  • Delays
  • Extra labor
  • Material corrections
  • Schedule disruptions
And ultimately, in the quality of the finished product.

A REAL WORLD EXAMPLE
One builder recently compared our package to a competitor that came in slightly lower.
What followed were multiple job orders, disorganized deliveries, and time spent correcting issues in the field.

The initial savings disappeared quickly — replaced by delays, frustration, and added labor.
That’s the difference between price and total cost.

HOW ITC PREVENTS THIS
At ITC Millwork, we don’t just supply materials — we help control what happens after they arrive, so issues like this don’t happen in the first place.

That starts with clarity and continues through execution:
  • Defined scope upfront
  • Line-by-line quotes — no guesswork
  • Organized, job-ready delivery
  • Support during installation
This approach reduces ambiguity — and prevents many of the issues that lead to rework and delays.

WHAT THIS MEANS
When the trim package is handled correctly:
  • Jobs run smoother
  • Teams stay focused
  • Fewer surprises
  • Less rework
  • More predictable outcomes

THE BOTTOM LINE
The cheapest trim package is often the most expensive one. Not because of the materials themselves — but because of everything that happens around them.

Getting it right the first time doesn’t just protect your budget. It protects your time, your schedule, and your reputation.
